Facilities

Studio spaces are available:

Monday - Sunday: 9:00am - 9:00pm.

Individual bookings can be made for a maximum of 3 hours.

Longer sessions may be available by prior arrangement. If you require additional time, please contact music-production.tech@yorksj.ac.uk at least two weeks before your booking to discuss availability.

Equipment

If you need to borrow equipment over a weekend, please book it during the last available booking slot on Friday. The equipment will then be placed in a locker for collection and can be used until 9:00am on Monday.

Equipment bookings should be made at least 3 days in advance whenever possible.

If you require equipment at short notice (within 3 days), you can:

  • Book the Short Notice Equipment Case through the booking system, or
  • Email music-production.tech@yorksj.ac.uk with details of the equipment required, along with the dates and times you need it.

We will do our best to accommodate short-notice requests; however, please be aware that these cannot be guaranteed, as a member of the team may not see the request in time for the booking to be made.

The Specialist Technical Team

The Music Production Specialist Technical Team is available to support you with specialist facilities, equipment, and queries throughout the academic year.

Technician Availability

Technicians are generally available during the following times and are based in the Technical Support Hub within the Bunker Recording Studio:

Monday: 9:00am - 12:00pm, 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Tuesday: 9:00am - 12:00pm, 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Wednesday: 9:00am - 12:00pm, 2:00pm - 3:00pm
Thursday: 9:00am - 12:00pm, 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Friday: 9:00am - 12:00pm, 2:00pm - 3:00pm

Please note that Music Production facilities are not staffed outside of the above hours, including weekends, public holidays and University closure days. During these periods, emails and support requests will not be monitored.

During staffed hours, technicians may occasionally be responding to support requests elsewhere within the specialist facilities. As a result, there may not always be someone present in the Technical Support Hub. However, a technician will usually be working nearby within the surrounding studio spaces and will be available to assist as soon as possible.

If you require urgent assistance during support hours and no Music Production technician is available, please visit the Media Production Hatch, located near QS007. To find it, exit the Bunker Studio, turn left, and follow the corridor.

For non-urgent enquiries, please contact the team by email or book a technical tutorial. We aim to respond to all emails within two working days and will do our best to assist you as quickly as possible.

Technical Tutorials

Students can book a one-to-one technical tutorial with a Music Production Technician. To arrange a session, please use the booking link provided in the Useful Links section.

While we have added the essential and main resources and facilities, you may find that not all equipment has been added to this system. If you cannot find a resource that you think should be on this system, please get in touch at music-production.tech@yorksj.ac.uk

Studio Access for First-Year Students

To ensure that all students are able to use the studio facilities safely and confidently, first-year students are not permitted to book studio spaces until they have successfully completed their Studio Licence training and induction during Semester 1.

Further information about the Studio Licence process, including training requirements and how to gain access to the booking system, will be provided closer to the start of the semester.

Late Night Bookings (3rd Year Students Only)

Out of hours sessions can now be booked through the "Late Sessions" section in the "book by category" menu.
